AAA Editor Notes

Main Building (Golden Dome) is at the heart of the University of Notre Dame campus. The magnificent dome is surmounted by a statue of the Virgin Mary. The murals depicting the life of Christopher Columbus are the work of Luigi Gregori, a Vatican artist who spent 17 years at Notre Dame. A $58 million renovation has restored the five-story Victorian building's woodwork, lighting fixtures and walls. Guided tours are available.
Free.
Hours: Campus walking tours depart from the visitor center Mon.-Fri. at 10, 1 and 3, June to mid-Aug.; at 10 and 3, Apr.-May and mid-Aug. through Dec. 31; at 1, rest of year.
