family with older children
Pros: The beds were comfortable with nice duvets and smooth, crisp linens. There were plenty of pillows. The location was very convenient to Notre Dame and all the Orientation activities. The check-in staff were friendly and efficient. They were our only contact with any hotel staff until we checked out two days later. The breakfast was not terrible and had a number of options, but lacked any fresh fruit choices. There were scrambled eggs, bacon strips crumbled in the bottom of the chafing dish, a couple types of bread for toast, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, waffle batter, three dry cereal options, and small individual yogurts. I didn't drink the coffee, but heard others complaining about the taste.
Cons: The sofa was old and dirty, the cushions were sagging and worn. The carpet was not clean. The sink, tub, toilet, faucets, and accessories were VERY old - enamel chipping in large areas, tub was slippery and had a film of grit, the vanities were old and chipped and worn, the very nice rain head in the shower sadly only trickled with the poor water pressure. It was the only component in the bathroom that had been updated in the last 30 years. Faucets were old and difficult to regulate, and the water pressure was anemic. The lighting in the bathroom was "gold" hued fluorescent and almost non-existent. The corners of the floor - both tile in bathroom and carpet in bedroom had an accumulation of grime and dust. The 2nd room (we had a suite) had only the uncomfortable sofa to sit in, and it was set too far away from the TV which was hung up so high on the wall that resulted in a very uncomfortable viewing angle. Besides, I didn't feel comfortable sitting on the dirty upholstery. The AC was a wall unit which blasted freezing cold air directly onto the second bed a few inches away when it WAS running, but it ran so infrequently, even when set at 65, that you were either freezing, or gasping in the heat. The common areas were okay. The pool, workout facility and ice machines were all inaccessible/closed due to a flood they'd had the week before, so I had no experience with them. I also didn't mention the dehumidifiers in the hallways with large tubes snaking up through the dropped ceilings, and the mildew smell and general dampness all over the hotel because that was not really their fault due to the recent flooding. As do all the other area hotels, this place triples its prices for big Notre Dame weekends and we feel it is definitely not worth the increased price. Overall not a great experience and we won't be staying again, despite its convenient location.
