Taltree Arboretum & Gardens is s. of US 30 at CR 500W, 1.5 mi. s. to CR 100N, then .5 mi. e. to 450 W. CR 100N. This 330-acre oak tree preserve encompasses wetlands, woodlands, prairies and formal gardens and offers more than 6 miles of hiking trails. The Oak Islands exhibit showcases more than 40 different oak species; numerous bird and butterfly species also can be seen. Of special interest is the Railway Garden, in which model trains meander through historical vignettes on prairie and mountain landscapes.
Guided tours and hikes are available by reservation.
