Purdue University is bounded by Northwestern Ave., State St. and Airport Rd. Founded in 1869 as a land-grant college, Purdue is one of the nation's leading research institutions. The 1877 University Hall is the oldest building on campus. Purdue Memorial Union features an art gallery as well as a hotel and restaurants; Stewart Center comprises an art gallery, playhouse and audiovisual center. The Purdue Christmas Show is a musical event and an Indiana holiday tradition held annually in the Elliott Hall of Music. Guided tours are available by reservation. Self-guiding walking tour maps are available at the visitor information center at 504 Northwestern Ave. Guided tours are available.
