Prairie Trails Museum of Wayne County, 515 E. Jefferson St. (SR 2E), traces the region's history from the ice age to today. The large main brick building showcases 25,000 artifacts in five galleries; highlights include an early 1900s Main Street with shop replicas and a bank safe robbed by Jesse James. Farm implements, including a steam engine, are found in the Heritage Barn. The Heritage Machine Shed houses antique tractors, a 1926 REO fire truck and an 1853 log cabin. Other exhibits include militaria from the American Revolution to the Iraq war, a Mormon Pioneer Trail exhibit and a prototype electric car. A video presentation is offered. A genealogy library also is available.
