Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum is at 502 W. Water St. More than 30,000 artifacts and 12 historic buildings chronicle the vesterheim, or western home, of Norwegian immigrants and showcase Norwegian folk and fine arts. The main building, a three-story 1877 hotel, houses such exhibits as a cabin made from a single tree and a 25-foot boat sailed from Norway to Chicago by two brothers. Rotating exhibits also are presented. An open-air display on the grounds features a Norwegian farmhouse, a stone mill and other pioneer buildings.
Guided tours are available.
