Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is 3 mi. w. on US 20 from jct. US 52/61/151, 2.5 mi. n. on John F. Kennedy Rd., and 1 blk. e. on W. 32nd St. to 3800 Arboretum Dr. in Marshall Park. Displays include shade gardens, woodland trails, prairie flowers and grasses, ornamental trees and shrubs, food plants and water gardens. Noteworthy are the hosta (plantain lily) glade, the award-winning All-American Rose gardens, an English garden and a Japanese garden with a 1-acre lake. A visitor center offers a second-floor viewing balcony and screened sitting rooms. Guided walking tours and guided riding tours on four- to six-passenger carts are available. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Arboretum free. Guided tours by donation. Reservations are required 3 days in advance for guided tours.
Hours: Daily dawn-dusk. Visitor center open daily 9-8, Apr.-Sept.; 9-5, in Oct. Guided tours are available Mon.-Fri. 9-5, May-Oct. Concerts are given Sun. at 6:30, June-Aug.
