Hitchcock House is 1 mi. w. on Nishna Valley Rd. Guided tours take visitors through the 1856 sandstone house built by Congregationalist minister and ardent abolitionist Rev. George B. Hitchcock. The two-story house is a National Historic Landmark. A secret room in the basement served as a refuge for fugitive slaves traveling the Underground Railroad. Guided tours are available.
$5; free (students through 8th grade).
Hours: Tues.-Sun. 1-4:30, May-Sept. Last tour begins 1 hour before closing. Allow 1 hour minimum.
