AAA Editor Notes
Institute of Jamaica is at 10-16 East St. The facility houses an outstanding West Indies reference library, a reading room, an art gallery, a music museum and a natural history museum that highlights Jamaica's native plants and animals. An herbarium features more than 30,000 specimens. There also are maps and folklore exhibits, including the “shark papers,” incriminating journals thrown overboard by a guilty sea captain and found years later in the belly of a shark.

Guided tours are available.
