AAA Editor Notes
Rodney Memorial is on the n. side of Parade Square. This domed building with colonnades honors British admiral George Rodney and his 1782 victory over French forces off the shores of Dominica. His victory assured the safety of Jamaica and other British possessions in the Caribbean. Rodney is portrayed as a Roman emperor in a toga. His 200-ton statue was moved to Kingston in 1872, but outraged Spanish Town citizens reclaimed it in 1889. One stone hand was lost in the process.
