Midland Railway is off US 56, s. on 11th St., then w. to 1515 W. High St. Presidents William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt visited the 1906 brick and stone Santa Fe Depot, which includes triple-arched windows, a coal fireplace and dual gas/electric lighting systems. Built in 1867, the line was the first railroad south of the Kansas River. Visitors ride on restored 1900s locomotives, coaches and cabooses as they travel through woods and farmland and over a 200-foot-long bridge. A dinner excursion also is available Friday through Sunday.
