AAA Editor Notes
Nicodemus National Historic Site has its home base at the Township Hall, 304 Washington Ave., but also includes four other nearby buildings on the site: the AME Church, the First Baptist Church, District No. 1 Schoolhouse and the St. Francis Hotel. Nicodemus was founded as an African American community following the Civil War during westward expansion, and several of the descendants of the original town still live there. An annual Homecoming/Emancipation celebration is held annually in July.
