AAA Editor Notes
Nicodemus National Historic Site has its home base at the Township Hall, 304 Washington Ave., but also includes four other nearby buildings on the site: the AME Church, the First Baptist Church, District No. 1 Schoolhouse and the St. Francis Hotel. Nicodemus was founded as an African-American community following the Civil War during westward expansion, and several of the descendants of the original town still live there. An annual Homecoming/Emancipation celebration is held annually in July.
