AAA Editor Notes
Richard Allen Cultural Center and Museum is at 412 Kiowa St. The museum highlights the roles African Americans have played in the history of Kansas and the West with exhibits about the Buffalo Soldiers, a nickname originally applied to members of the all-Black Army regiments created after the Civil War. A restored Buffalo Soldiers home features furnishings and 1920s décor.

Other exhibits include an 1860 tallow light belonging to a runaway slave, a collection of historic photos and memorabilia belonging to former Secretary of State Colin Powell. An Underground Railroad guided tour also is offered.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
