Johnson County Museum of History is at 8788 Metcalf Ave. The Seeking the Good Life exhibit has more than 500 artifacts and explores three time periods in Johnson County. These eras are 1820-1880: Settling the Land; 1880-1945: Building the Suburbs; and 1945-present: Developing an Edge City. Interactive displays also highlight the county's history. KidScape offers hands-on exhibits for children that include a bookstore, park, city hall, hospital, fashion boutique and theater. A research library also is available. Note: The museum (formerly at 6305 Lackman Rd.) is scheduled to open at this new location in May 2017; phone ahead for updates.
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 10-4:30. Closed major holidays. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
