Fort Bissell, .5 blks. w. on State St./US 36 in City Park, is a reconstruction of an 1872 fort built to protect settlers from Apache Indian raids. Antiques and equipment from an early doctor’s office and a barber shop are displayed. Two 1870s log houses depict pioneer lifestyles. A furnished sod house, a one-room schoolhouse and an early general store also are on the grounds.

Hours: Tues.-Fri. 9-4, Sat. 9-2, Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day weekend; by appointment rest of year. Closed July 4. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
