South Central Kentucky Cultural Center is at 200 W. Water St. at jct. Main St. in the renovated 1928 Kentucky Pant Factory. The history of the geographic area known as the Barrens is depicted at the cultural center, also known as the Museum of the Barrens (the term “barrens” refers to an expanse of open prairie surrounded by forests).
The museum relates the history of Barren County and parts of four nearby counties. Visitors can explore a pioneer family’s 19th-century log cabin, a Victorian parlor, a doctor’s office and a one-room school. Local artists are featured in changing exhibits.
