AAA Editor Notes
Jack Thomas House is just e. of the Public Square roundabout at 122 E. Main St. This brick home is the oldest in Grayson County and was constructed 1812-14 by Jack Thomas, the county's first court clerk, and his wife. Antique furniture and many of Thomas' writings and memorabilia, as well as items donated by citizens with ties to the county, are displayed. The home also currently serves as the headquarters of the county's historical society.
During guided tours, visitors may learn about some of the building's more unique features, such as why one of its doorways has a door 48" wide — far larger than its others. Also on site is the Buchanan Log Cabin, where visitors can view a furnished one-room log structure.
