Kentucky Center for African American Heritage is at 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd. Designed to be the state's pre-eminent center focusing on the cultural, social and artistic contributions of African-Americans, it is on the site of a restored trolley maintenance complex. Among the exhibits are those dedicated to York, the slave who played a major part in the Lewis & Clark expedition; the civil rights movement; and the role that the church has played in black culture. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.

Hours: Mon.-Fri. 9-5 (also Sat.-Sun. noon-5 for special events). Closed major holidays.
