Whitehall House and Gardens is off I-64 exit 8; take Grinstead Dr. .2 mi. s., then 1.2 mi. e. to 3110 Lexington Rd. Built in 1855, the house was originally a two-story, eight-room brick building. In 1909 the Middleton family remodeled and expanded the building, creating a 15-room Classical Revival mansion reminiscent of an antebellum plantation house. The 10-acre grounds feature a 2-acre formal Florentine garden. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Guided tour $5; $4 (ages 60+); $3 (students with ID).
Hours: Gardens daily dawn-dusk. Guided mansion tours are given Mon.-Fri. 10-2 and by appointment. Closed major holidays.
