AAA Inspector Notes
Inspector Pick (Social Scene): I am always wowed by the ornately-decorated lobby and Crystal Ballroom, with gold coffered ceilings, chandeliers and grand Corinthian columns.
Built in 1923, this restored hotel features marble floors, elaborate plaster ceilings, chandeliers and intricately-carved European antique furniture. Rooms have a handsome traditional décor. The spacious lobby is ornately decorated with cream and gold-hued Corinthian columns, as well as an ornately-decorated ceiling. Guest rooms have equestrian art and cherry veneer furniture. Smoke free premises. 293 units, some two bedrooms. 16 stories, interior corridors.

Pros: The location at the foot of the downtown area is convenient.
Cons: I have stayed at the Brown several times over many years. The hotel is not respecting its history. The amenities are the same as any 3 1/2 star hotel. Not what an experienced traveler expects in a hotel claiming to compete with the best in the world.

Pros: Old hotel with a classy feel. Looks for historical and eclectic. Staff was great though.
Cons: I didnt care for check in being on the 2nd floor. I didn't like the limited number of outlets in the room.

Pros: The food at the J Graham's Café was pretty good, but not legendary. The lobby level interior is from another era. The floor carpets show ample dirt and wear, especially on the grand staircase. The location is good.
Cons: This hotel doesn't live up to its 4.5 star rating. Beds are springy and noisy, the decor is blue hair (fake flower arrangements), dusty picture frames and trim, room service put us on hold for five minutes (we gave up), no sugar/sweetener with the coffee.
