Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site, .5 mi. n.w. on US 51/60/62 atop a bluff that overlooks the Mississippi River, is the site of a prehistoric Native American village of the Mississippian tradition that existed between approximately 1100 and 1350. Archeologists have unearthed mounds, home sites and artifacts. Interpretive exhibits in an open excavation area illustrate prehistoric Native American life and archeological methods. An exhibit area designed for children is available.
