Lexington Cemetery is at 833 W. Main St. Buried here are the family of Mrs. Abraham Lincoln; Henry Clay and his wife; 19th-century author and educator James Lane Allen; Col. W.C.P. Breckinridge, the “silver-tongued Orator of Kentucky”; Confederate cavalry officer Gen. John Hunt Morgan; basketball coach Adolph F. Rupp; actor Jim Varney; and 500 Confederate soldiers. Well-known as an arboretum, the cemetery has seasonal floral gardens.

Federal leader Gen. Gordon Granger and “King” Solomon, vagabond hero of the cholera plague of 1833 who was immortalized by novelist James Lane Allen, also are interred here. The cemetery embraces the nearby Lexington National Cemetery. Self-guiding walking tours are available.
