The R.W. Norton Art Gallery, 4747 Creswell Ave., opened in 1966 and displays European and American paintings, sculpture and decorative arts. Galleries are devoted to Flemish tapestries from the late 16th century, works by Auguste Rodin, rare books, antique dolls, Wedgwood pottery and silver pieces by Paul Revere. Other permanent exhibits contain works by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell.

The art gallery's 40 landscaped acres feature more than 15,000 plants, most notably a collection of approximately 100 native and hybrid varieties of azalea, which typically bloom in late March or early April. Sitting benches are conveniently scattered throughout the peaceful gardens, which also contain eight sculptures, waterfalls and ornamental ponds. Guided tours are available by appointment (minimum 10 people).

Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
