Irene W. Pennington Planetarium & ExxonMobil Space Theater is in the Louisiana Art & Science Museum at 100 River Rd. S. Planetarium sky shows play on a 60-foot domed screen. Three galleries showcase the solar system, the Milky Way galaxy and the universe. Exhibits include a 40-foot solar system clock and nine built-to-scale planet models, including the 15-foot-wide rings of Saturn. A 1,500-pound triceratops skull also is on display. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
(includes museum galleries and unlimited planetarium shows) $8.50; $7 (ages 3-12, ages 65+ and college students with ID). Ages 0-2 are not permitted in the theater except for the family show.
Hours: Tues.-Fri. 10-3, Sat. 10-5, Sun. 1-4. Planetarium shows begin at opening and are given on the hour thereafter; the last show begins at closing. Phone ahead to confirm show schedule. Closed major holidays and Mardi Gras Day.
