Port Hudson State Historic Site is at 236 US 61. Included in the 899-acre park is the site of a Civil War battle said to be the longest siege in American military history—the fight for Port Hudson and control of the Mississippi River. Interpretive exhibits, a museum, outdoor cannon displays and an observation tower also are on the grounds. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.

Hours: Site open Wed.-Sun. 9-5. Guided tours by appointment. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
