Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is on the Mississippi River at 1 Canal St. More than 10,000 specimens represent some 400 species of marine life and birds found throughout the Americas. Visitors can see sharks, stingrays, piranhas, white alligators, black-footed and rockhopper penguins, sea otters and endangered sea turtles. Aquatic habitats include the 400,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico exhibit, the Great Maya Reef, the Amazon Rainforest and the Mississippi River. Other displays include the Seahorse Gallery and one of the largest jellyfish collections in the world. Entergy Giant Screen Theater is housed here as well. Adjacent to the aquarium, Woldenberg Riverfront Park is the location of cultural and educational facilities. Animal encounter programs are available by advance reservation. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
