Van Benthuysen-Elms Mansion is at 3029 St. Charles Ave. Built in 1869, the Greek Revival and Italianate mansion features ornate architecture and decorative accents, including hand-carved oak and mahogany woodwork, Carrara marble fireplaces, 24-karat gold sconces and Irish tapestry wall coverings. The mansion was home to a German baron 1931-41; it was later discovered that he was a spy.
