AAA Editor Notes
Acadian Memorial is at the northern end of Evangeline Oak Park at 121 S. New Market St. The story of the Acadian exile from Nova Scotia is preserved at the memorial, which documents the mid-18th-century arrival in Louisiana with a mural depicting ancestors of area Cajuns. A sound system allows you to hear narrators describing some of the settlers' stories. Acadian family names, taken from ships' manifests or regional civil records, are displayed on bronze plaques arranged by arrival year. A research center and meditation garden also are included.
A guided tour that includes all Evangeline Oak Park sites and St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church is available.
