Camp Moore Confederate Museum & Cemetery is off I-55 exit 57, 1.5 mi. e. on SR 440, then .2 mi. n. on US 51, following signs. Camp Moore was a training camp for Civil War soldiers, many of whom died of malaria without ever facing battle. A marble statue of a soldier stands guard over the cemetery. Museum exhibits feature currency, weapons, uniforms, medical equipment, photographs, personal effects and musical instruments. A video chronicling the history of Camp Moore is shown. A research library also is available. A Camp Moore re-enactment is held the weekend before Thanksgiving.
