Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain Museum, 226 Maine St., is a partially restored Federal-style house with Victorian Gothic additions. The house once belonged to Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, a Civil War hero, president of Bowdoin College and governor of Maine 1867-71. Guests Chamberlain entertained at the house include Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Helen Keller and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Guided tours are available.
$12; $10 (ages 65+ and active military and students with ID); $6 (ages 6-16); $30 (family, two adults and up to three children). Combination ticket with Skolfield-Whittier House $16; $10 (ages 6-16); $55 (family, two adults and up to three children).
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. 1-4, Memorial Day weekend-Columbus Day weekend; Fri.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. 1-4, day after Columbus Day-Veterans Day weekend. Guided tours depart on the hour. Last admission 1 hour before closing.
