AAA Editor Notes
Woodlawn Museum/Black House is on SR 172 off US 1. On a self-guiding audio tour visitors explore this Federal-style house built in the 1820s for Col. John Black, who played a major role in developing Maine's lumber industry. With elegant woodwork and an elliptical flying staircase, the home is as it appeared during occupation by three generations of the Black family. Period furnishings reflect a privileged lifestyle. On the 180-acre grounds are gardens, hiking trails, a carriage house and what is said to be the state's largest croquet court.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
