L.C. Bates Museum, 5 mi. n. of I-95 exit 133 on US 201, is housed in a three-story Romanesque building constructed in 1903. Exhibits relate to Maine's natural history, archeology and ethnology. Additional highlights include a children's room and a turn-of-the-19th-century classroom. The grounds feature an arboretum and walking trails. Art exhibits are featured in summer.
Guided nature walks and children's workshops are offered weekly.
Picnicking is permitted.
