Patten Lumbermen's Museum, .5 mi. w. on SR 159 to 61 Shin Pond Rd., at the n. entrance to Baxter State Park, has more than 4,000 exhibits in nine separate buildings—a legacy of the town's longstanding involvement with logging. Displays include carpenters', surveyors' and timber cruisers' tools; a blacksmith shop; a steam and a gas Lombard log hauler; pre-mechanized, horse-drawn equipment; photographs; and a full-scale replica of an 1820s lumber camp.
