Nickels-Sortwell House, 121 Main St. (US 1), was built by prominent Maine shipmaster Capt. William Nickels and later owned by Alvin Sortwell, a mayor of Cambridge, Mass. Guided tours take visitors through the 1807 house, which contains the Sortwell family's Colonial Revival-style furnishings. An elliptical staircase is illuminated by a third-floor skylight. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.

Hours: Tours are given on the hour and half-hour Fri.-Sun. 11-4, June 1-Oct. 15.
