The Savanna of the Slaves (La Savane des Esclaves)

The Savanna of the Slaves (La Savane des Esclaves), e. on Hwy. D7 to Quartier La Ferme, provides a French-narrated guided tour relative to the island's history of slavery. Participants are led through a reproduction of a settlement once inhabited by slaves who escaped plantation life and sought refuge in the swamps. Life in the 1900s village is explored through housing, tools, folk art, everyday goods and medicinal plants.
