AAA Editor Notes
Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden is at 580 Taylor Ave. at the Tawes State Office Building across from Navy Stadium. This 5-acre botanical garden features representations of the state's natural environmental communities, from the forested mountains of western Maryland to the sand dunes of the Eastern Shore. Shallow ponds support such wildlife as bullfrogs, ducks, fish, songbirds and turtles. An arc of cultivated plants stands opposite a stately arbor. Among the visitor center's exhibits are three aquariums.
Guided tours are available by reservation. Weekdays the garden is entered through the visitor center in the Tawes State Office Building; weekend and holiday access is between the Court of Appeals and the Department of Natural Resources buildings.
Guided tours are available. Pets on leash are allowed. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
