James E. Lewis Museum of Art is in the Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center on the Morgan State University campus at 2201 Argonne Dr. Founded in 1951, the museum houses a permanent collection of more than 5,000 pieces comprising 19th- and 20th-century African, African-American, Asian, European and Oceanic works of art including crafts, paintings, photography and sculptures. The sacrifices made by African-American soldiers, nurses and merchant mariners are honored in a gallery dedicated to war veterans. Changing and conceptual exhibits display such items as costumes and posters. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
