The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum, 1601 E. North Ave., is committed to the study and preservation of African-American history. More than 140 life-size wax figures portray people who had significant impact on events in ancient Africa, the Middle Passage, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance and the modern civil rights movement. A 24-foot-by-30-foot replica of a slave ship also is featured.

Guided tours are available by reservation and require a minimum of 20 participants.

$15; $14 (ages 12-17, ages 55+ and college students with ID); $12 (ages 3-11). Guided tour additional $13.50.

Tues.-Sat. 9-5, Sun. noon-5 (also Mon. 9-5, in Feb. and July-Aug.). Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas; phone ahead to confirm holiday schedule.
