Oregon Ridge Nature Center is off I-83 exit 20B, 1 mi. w. on Shawan Rd., then just s. to 13555 Beaver Dam Rd. On the grounds of the nearly 1,100-acre Oregon Ridge Park, the center features indoor and outdoor exhibits and is adjacent to 10 miles of marked hiking trails. Indoor exhibits document local archeology as well as flora and fauna; visitors may observe live animals including fish, honeybees, snakes and turtles. Outside, a restored miner tenant house contains an exhibit detailing the area's 19th-century iron- and marble-mining history. Naturalist-guided programs are offered seasonally and include hiking and moonlight nature walks.
Note: Comfortable clothing and footwear is recommended for hiking trails and special programs.
