Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, departing the station center at 13 Canal St., offers 3.5-hour round-trip excursions up 1,300-foot-high Piney Mountain, through Brush Tunnel and into Frostburg aboard a train pulled by either a Baldwin steam locomotive or a GP30 diesel engine. Saturday Night Specials and first-class trips also are available. Guided tours are available.
$35; $33 (ages 60+); $18 (ages 0-12); free (ages 0-1 on lap). First-class and reserved seating are available for an additional fee. Phone ahead to confirm fares. Reservations are highly recommended and are required for Oct. excursions.
Hours: Steam locomotive excursions depart Fri.-Sun. at 11:30, July-Aug. and in Oct.; Sat.-Sun. (also Fri. after Thanksgiving) at 11:30, May-June, in Sept. and Nov. 1 to mid-Dec.
