Sotterley Plantation is 4 mi. n. off SR 245 at 44300 Sotterley Ln. The 1703 Plantation House has views of the Patuxent River and features a Chippendale-style staircase, pine paneling with handcrafted shell alcoves and antique furnishings. The house overlooks the Colonial Revival gardens, an 1830s slave cabin, an 18th-century warehouse, a “necessary,” a schoolhouse and several other historical outbuildings. Guided tours of the plantation house include a 300-year historical overview, with a focus on the Colonial Revival period. Educational programs and special events are offered throughout the year. An audio tour of the house and grounds is available. Guided tours are available.
Grounds May-Oct. $5; rest of year $3. Grounds and plantation house tour $10; $9 (senior citizens); $6 (ages 6-18 and college students with ID). Audio tour $5.
Hours: Grounds open for self-guiding tours Tues.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. noon-4, year-round. Guided plantation house tours are given Tues.-Sat. at 10:30, 11:30, 1, 2 and 3, Sun. at noon, 1, 2 and 3, May-Oct.; Sat. at 10:30, 11:30, 1, 2 and 3, in Apr. Audio tours available May-Oct. Closed major holidays. Allow 1 hour minimum.
