Montpelier Mansion and Arts Center is w. off Gladys Spellman (Baltimore-Washington) Pkwy. (I-295) Laurel-Bowie Rd. exit (SR 197), following signs to Muirkirk Rd. The center has three galleries with changing exhibitions of regional and national contemporary art. Visitors can watch artists in their studios, whose talents range from painting and sculpting to rug hooking and jewelry making.
The Montpelier Mansion, next to the arts center, was built in 1783 and is a fine example of Georgian architecture, complete with boxwood gardens on the grounds.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
