Flag Ponds Nature Park is 2.7 mi. n. on SR 2/4, then just e. to 1525 Flag Ponds Pkwy. The 545-acre park is a haven for native wildlife, including muskrats, otters, white-tailed deer, turkeys, foxes and pileated woodpeckers. Plant life ranges from venerable hardwoods to the blue flag iris that gives the park its name. Two ponds have observation platforms. There also are 3 miles of hiking trails with interpretive signs, a wetlands boardwalk and a beach where fossils may be collected. Other activities include bird-watching, fishing, scuba diving and swimming.
Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
