Point Lookout State Park is 4.5 mi. s. on SR 5. A popular resort before the Civil War, the park is on a peninsula that forms the southern tip of Maryland's western shore. During the war, nearby Camp Hoffman housed more than 52,000 Confederate prisoners; more than 4,000 died from exposure, starvation and disease. There is a beach, fishing pier, picnic area, nature center and nature trails. A museum features Civil War history.
Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
