Phillips Wharf Environmental Center, 6129 Tilghman Island Rd., showcases local marine history and the importance of conservation of the Chesapeake Bay. The center has more than a dozen aquariums and touch tanks housing 27 species of marine animals, including horseshoe crabs, oysters, puffers, rockfish and turtles. Visitors can watch a working waterfront, oyster shucking and crab harvesting. A kayak launch is available, and special events are offered. Guided tours are available.
Hours: Daily 10-4, Memorial Day-Labor Day; Thurs.-Mon. 10-4, Apr. 1-day before Memorial Day and day after Labor Day-Nov. 30. Phone to confirm winter hours.
