Amherst College is at 220 S. Pleasant St. More than 1,800 students attend the 4-year institution, one of the most prestigious liberal arts colleges in the country. Founded in 1821, the undergraduate school is home to several edifying organizations, including the Amherst Center for Russian Culture, the Beneski Museum of Natural History, the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Mead Art Museum.
A self-guiding tour booklet, available for download on the Amherst College website, includes historical tidbits about the school as well as a walking tour of the 1,000-acre campus. Handicapped parking is available on the college's main quadrangle; however, no other on-campus parking is available Mon.-Fri.
