AAA Editor Notes
Yiddish Book Center, at 1021 West St. on the campus of Hampshire College, preserves more than 1.5 million books written in Yiddish. The center is housed in a building designed to look like a 19th-century shtetl, a cluster of wooden buildings surrounding a synagogue. In addition to Yiddish texts, the center houses permanent and temporary displays, which range from photographic histories to exhibitions about Jewish authors. Educational programs also are offered, and the grounds of the facility include meditation gardens.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
