Park Street Church, 1 Park St., was built in 1809 and was the scene of abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison's first antislavery address in 1829. On July 4, 1831, the patriotic song “My Country, 'Tis of Thee,” also known as “America,” written by Samuel Francis Smith, made its debut at the church. The steepled red brick building is one of the stops on the Freedom Trail.
