Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge encompasses the barrier islands of North and South Monomoy just s. of Chatham; headquarters is on Morris Island at 30 Wikis Way. The 7,604-acre sanctuary features various habitats and is an important resting, nesting and feeding site for such migratory birds as the piping plover and the roseate tern. Other creatures, including horseshoe crabs and seals, also inhabit the refuge.

A self-guiding tour brochure and exhibits about local wildlife are available at the refuge headquarters. Nearby, a short nature trail with overlooks provides bird-watching opportunities as well as views of North and South Monomoy islands.

Note: There are no trash cans on refuge property, and there is a carry-in, carry-out policy in effect.
