Martha's Vineyard Museum is at 59 School St. at Cooke St. The 18th-century Cooke House contains 11 rooms relating Vineyard history. The Pease House Galleries include the Wampanoag Gallery; the Oral History Center, which features the stories of native islanders; and Kid's Space. Also featured are the 1854 Fresnel lens from Gay Head Lighthouse and such vessels and vehicles as a whaleboat and an 1856 fire engine.

The Gale Huntington Library of History also is on-site. It contains reference material relating to Martha's Vineyard that includes books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, oral histories and genealogy information.
